What is an ACC Battery?
Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) batteries are high-capacity, modern rechargeable energy storage batteries. Compared to conventional batteries, they offer higher energy density, longer lifespan, faster charging, enhanced safety, and superior efficiency. They are primarily used in electric vehicles (EVs), grid-scale energy storage, solar and wind energy projects, consumer electronics, and industrial energy storage systems.
Key Features of the PLI Scheme
The ACC battery PLI scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2021. A financial outlay of ₹18,100 crore has been allocated for this initiative. The scheme aims to develop a battery manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh; of this, 40 GWh has already been allocated, and a global bidding process is currently underway for the remaining 10 GWh. The scheme encourages both domestic and global companies to set up state-of-the-art battery manufacturing plants in India.
